An Integrative Approach to Pain Recovery Using Applied Neuroscience Techniques

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, this course has been cancelled. We hope to reschedule it for next spring.

One-Day Tri-Cities District Course

Presented by Irene Luc, PT, DPT, Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist, Therapeutic Pain Specialist

Lecture and Lab • Six contact credit hours, 0.6 CEU

Saturday, April 25, 2020 • 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Oasis Physical Therapy, 1020 Queensgate Dr, Richland, WA

COURSE DESCRIPTION
If you have patients that continue to have chronic conditions that don’t heal even after traditional surgery, medicines or even physical therapy then this approach to utilizing applied neuroscience approach can be the key. The brain in a survival mode will change the hormonal and chemical makeup of the body, which creates complications to orthopedic conditions and exacerbates pain signals. Ultimately if we can retrain the brain to restore proper signaling to the body, these chronic conditions can be slowed or even healed. In this course you will learn tools to develop your own neuroscience-based treatment for patients in any PT setting to address pain, mood, and sleep disturbances.

COURSE OBJECTIVES
By the end of this course, participants will:
1. Understand the anatomy and physiology of the central nervous system structures that contribute to fight/flight/freeze and the ability of the brain to process pain.
2. Identify a patient who would benefit most from an integrative pain recovery program and red flags to refer them to other providers.
3. Apply/develop pain neuroscience education program for any therapy setting.
4. Practice and understand role of neurotransmitters and how visualization exercise is a tool to modulate them for sleep, mood, and pain control.
